Duke Of Edinburgh

Fancy getting out in the wilderness, seeing some of the most beautiful sights in the UK, and going camping with your friends? The Royal Air Force Air Cadets are the largest and cheapest organisation to do your DofE awards with.

Have a thirst for adventure and challenge?

Duke of Edinburgh awards can be completed by anyone who has a determination to succeed. Holding a mission to inspire, guide and support young people in the self-development. Within the Duke of Edinburgh Award there are three levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold)

To put it another way, they help you succeed. With the same sense of adventure that drew you to the Air Cadets in the first place, the DofE takes you through a programme of activities that will leave you a more confident, motivated and capable person. If you're 14 or over, then you can begin - just ask the instructors at squadron, and they'll help you get started. For more information now on everything DofE, visit their official website.

There are three levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Award. There are four sections at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold:

  • Volunteering - Get involved providing services to individuals or the community and make a difference to other people's lives
  • Physical - Get active and improve your skills and fitness in sport, dance or other physical activities - it's your choice
  • Skills - Find new interests and get new talents (or perfect existing ones), with increased practical and social skills
  • Expedition - Get outdoors and plan, train for and complete an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad - an unbeatable experience
  • Residential - Only at Gold level. Getting here is a big deal, and this last stage could see you going to another country! It'll test your mettle, and set you up for what life throws at you in the future.

And if you're under 14...

For our younger cadets, we offer pre-DofE training. Our initial expedition training, led by experienced instructors, teaches our cadets all the skills and drills they'll need to know for their later expeditions.

As a part of our initial expedition training, all cadets get to lead their respective teams, navigate to a new destination, camp out through the night, and learn how to be self-sufficient for themselves for when they’re out on future expeditions.

It not only serves as a bronze practice expedition, but also is a brilliant chance to bond closer with your friends, and to really dig in and use your teamwork and leadership skills you will have developed throughout your time as a cadet.
